ChemSoc: Meet your 2020-2021 committee
Student experience Welcome to Chemistry 25 August 2020
UoM ChemSoc is a society run for Chemistry students, by Chemistry students, but anyone with the slightest interest in Chemistry is more than welcome! We’re part of the University of Manchester Students’ Union.
We will be hosting a number of diverse events throughout the year to cater for every kind of person, from guest lectures, to pub quizzes, to nights out. We want to create a community where everyone feels welcome and included, we want to help with people’s social lives as well as their academic development and future career! Meet our committee below and get in touch with us on social media.

Paige Halil (President)
Paige has a soft spot for anything related to inorganic chemistry and a vendetta against anything that requires maths. She is excited to use ChemSoc to build a sense of community between its members. Depending on how tired she is, you can find her riding rollercoasters, going to the same two clubs or accidentally ruining her island on Animal Crossing.
Ryan Beaumount (Gen Sec)
Entering his final year, Ryan wants to make an impact on ChemSoc with a valuable approach that will benefit all who take part. His good flexibility and understanding of others allow him to work well in a team of enthusiastic people that will place ChemSoc back on the map! A keen inorganic chemist that enjoys the little things in life, Ryan is often found desperately trying to stay fit and healthy but failing…
Amrita Chattopadhyay (Treasurer)
Amrita would love to have the society host loads of events this year so that more people are encouraged to engage themselves and meet some like-minded chemistry lovers. She will also try to get you the cheapest tickets possible (if not for free ) at our socials! When she’s not busy blowing things up in the laboratory, you’ll find her twirling around to bollywood songs or whiling away time writing free verse poems!
Elena Wright (Education Sec)
Elena is a fourth year MChem student and has just completed her year in industry with Johnson Matthey. She hopes to make new students feel welcome and part of our chemistry community, as well as organise some great events to highlight the amazing chemistry that happens at Manchester! In her free time, Elena will be out exploring Manchester, meeting with friends and family and hunting out new places to eat and drink!
Charlotte Cross (Sports Sec)
Charlotte is a third year MChem student and loves biological chemistry. She is excited to bring the department together through sport and continue the chemistry campus league teams. In her free time you will find her playing for the university netball club or in the gym. She also loves to go out with friends and explore Manchester!
Charlotte Istance (Inclusion Officer)
Your Inclusion Officer is Charley, who’s just finished her year in industry at AstraZeneca, developing a novel technique for the analysis of oligonucleotides using low resolution mass spectrometry. As a passionate member of the LGBTQ+ community she’s very excited to take on this role. She’s looking forward to making ChemSoc a safe and inclusive place for all chemists in our university! When she’s not at uni she love to travel and spend time cooking wonderful food with her amazing girlfriend, she can also do a 7×7 Rubiks cube!
