Meet the Department Welcome to CE 27 August 2020
Getting to know the staff who will look after you, a new student in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science, is a key part of becoming part of our student community. Now more than ever, it is arguably more important to have a virtual introduction to some of staff that will help to support you at every stage of your student journey.
Introducing the Educational Support Office (ESO):
- What is the Education Support Office?
A team of administrators supporting students and academics in the area of teaching and learning.
- What do we do?
All aspects of administration relating to the Student Lifecycle. Including:
- Timetabling
- Assessment
- Student Welfare/mitigating circumstances
- Postgraduate study/research
- Placements/study abroad
- Programme changes
- Contacting the ESO

Tracie Mcarthur
Education Support Manager, Department of Chemical Engineering & Analytical Science
‘’Welcome to the Department of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science. My name is Tracie McArthur and I am the Education Support Manager for the Department working with a great team in the Education Support Office supporting students across all areas of teaching and learning. My main areas of responsibilities are resourcing T&L activities; overseeing of T&L strategic activities; implementation of University policies; curriculum management; quality assurance processes; periodic reviews; programme handbooks; timetabling planning; student experience action plans and Faculty appeals, complaints and academic malpractice cases.
I look forward to meeting you in September and getting to know you throughout your programme of study’’.
Loraine Mckoy
Education and Support Deputy Manager, Department of Chemical Engineering & Analytical Science
“Hello and welcome to the Department of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science. My name is the Loraine McKoy and I am the Education Support Deputy Manager. I work in the Education Support Office and line manage a team of fantastic and hardworking Education Support staff. My role is to support the Education Manager in running all operational aspects of administrative support for the Teaching &Learning activities for the in the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the department. I oversee a variety of activities to ensure the smooth running of the office’s standard administration processes for UG, PGT and PGR students, including: assessment and examination processes, welfare and pastoral support. I also manage the International monitoring requirements, Census checks, CAS, Visa, ATAS activities. Registration/Induction & Graduation to name a few of my responsibilities.”

Igor Bulatov 
PGR Support Administrator, Department of Chemical Engineering & Analytical Science
“Hi! My name is Igor Bulatov and I am PGR Support Administrator. If you are a PhD student or an MSc by Research student, you are welcome to contact me regarding any of your admin-related problems, I will help you to sort them out. I will be your first port of call in your communication with the university’s admin and finance teams and with the Department’s PGR Director. Also if PGR students have any well-being issues, they can talk to me as the first contact point. Besides that, I do the allocation of PGR students to Teaching Assistants positions and I strongly encourage you to apply for those paid roles at the university!”
Tonia Berry
Student Support Administrator, Department of Chemical Engineering & Analytical Science
“Hello, I’m the Student Support Administrator and Disability Co-ordinator for the department and my main job is making sure you know what support is available to you and helping you to access it – whether it be academic advisement, counselling services, or mitigation when something is effecting your academic performance. Students usually come to see me if they are having difficulties with university or their well-being, or if they need support with a disability during their studies. My best advice would be not to wait until things go wrong! If you think you might need support during your time with us then get in touch and we can work out what the University can do to help you.”
Mateusz Przygoda
Administrative Assistant, Department of Chemical Engineering & Analytical Science
“Welcome to the Department of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science. My name is Mateusz (Matt), and I am an administrative assistant. The main part of my role is dealing with students undertaking Industrial Experience year as well as those who are searching for a placement. Students that would like to undertake a placement year will hear a lot from myself, particularly in the second year as I will be offering you all the support needed to secure a placement, this includes things such as weekly bulleting, preparation for and interview or even advice on how to improve your CV. In addition to the above I deal with students who would like to undertake a an Erasmus Exchange or a Word Wide Exchange in the third year of their programme. I can also help you If you are an international student that is looking to seek an advise on their VISA as I can give you an advise and support in this area.

Lauren Murphy & Nicholas Jones,
Programmes Administrators
‘Hi! We’re the Programme Administrators for the department, and our main job is to handle the general admin for all of your studies. We are mainly responsible for the assessment admin in the department, this includes but is not limited to UG/PGT coursework and exam queries, dissertation project management and handling marks. We also help out with other things too, such as organising script viewings so you can go over your exam papers, or helping you to swap course units or change programmes. If you have any questions about anything assessment related you should definitely contact us, we are always happy to help you!’
Introducing your Student Experience Team
Lizzie Hoyle Student Experience Officer and Laura Senior Student Intern, Department of Chemical Engineering & Analytical Science
“Hello, we are the Student Experience team for the Department and our main role is planning the departmental events for you to attend outside of your lectures. We work with the societies, academic staff, PASS (Peer Assisted Study) coordinators and leaders, and student reps to promote and organise activities and events to enhance your experience whilst a member of the Chem Eng community. We also collate feedback and ideas to share with the department and wider university to help improve your experience whilst at the University and beyond. We also run the student experience social media accounts (Facebook:@uomchemicalengineering & Instagram:@uomchemeng) and issue a weekly newsletter to keep you up to date on any upcoming events and initiatives you may want to get involved in.
