Summary

Currently, the majority of textiles is dyed with synthetic dyes due to their properties such as wide range of achievable colours or good colour fastness. However, these dyes are often toxic and harmful to both people and environment. That is why researchers are trying to find more sustainable alternatives. This project examines natural dyes obtained from the pre-consumer food waste and dyeing using natural mordants. Such alternative would help with both more sustainable dyeing and dealing with waste from the food industry.
