Micaela has been highly commended in the sustainable development category of the L’Oréal‑UNESCO For Women in Science Young Talent Programme. The award is in recognition of her independent research on mixotrophy – a process where microbes metabolise both organic carbon and carbon dioxide (CO2), an under-explored area that has the potential to transform bioproduction by making it more efficient and sustainable.
