We work on the materials that sit at the heart of a nuclear power station – the tubes that contain the nuclear fuel. This fuel is radioactive and so must be contained very safely and carefully within these tubes (or rods). We study materials and their interactions. Materials scientists will show you different materials and their properties. What happens to a material when they get hot or covered in water? Will the materials start to break, or their properties change?
