You\u2019re bombarded with information on choosing a course, selecting a city, and applying to the university \u2018right for you\u2019. Somehow, the what\u2019s-what on Clearing gets lost in all the noise. It would be super helpful to have it all on one, convenient page\u2026 So that\u2019s what we did.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve dotted the i\u2019s and crossed the t\u2019s so you don\u2019t have to. Here you\u2019ll find all the <strong>Who<\/strong>, <strong>What<\/strong> and <strong>Where<\/strong>\u2019s of the whole Clearing process, broken down into handy, bitesize bullet points.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The When\u2019s&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When does Clearing start and end?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The UCAS cycle for Clearing opens from 5 July 2024 and closes on 21 October 2024. The main Clearing period will start on A-level results day as The University of Manchester will only be able to consider a student&#8217;s application for Clearing once they have received their results. &nbsp;We will update our website on A-level results day with which courses we have places for, and will remain open in Clearing until our vacancies are filled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/science-engineering\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/59\/2024\/05\/Foamboard.png\" alt=\"Two individuals working on a giant foamboard aircraft.\" class=\"wp-image-5720\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The What\u2019s<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Clearing?&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Clearing is when universities provide students with the opportunity to apply for places which haven\u2019t yet been filled, outside of the normal application window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a good option if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You\u2019ve changed your mind about what course you want to do.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You missed the application deadline of 30 June.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You haven\u2019t met the entry requirements for the offer you\u2019ve accepted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You\u2019ve done better than expected and would like to change to a different course or university.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Read our \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sites.se.manchester.ac.uk\/science-engineering\/2024\/08\/14\/what-is-clearing\/\">What is Clearing<\/a>\u2019 blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happens with accommodation in Clearing?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have received your University ID which is in your \u2019offer letter\u2019 email from our Admissions Team, you can apply for accommodation using the online application form. We\u2019re proud to offer an accommodation guarantee, so all our new full-time undergraduate students have a place in one of our residential halls. Find out everything you need to know about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.manchester.ac.uk\/study\/experience\/accommodation\/student-accommodation\/guarantee\/\">applying for accommodation<\/a> at Manchester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happens with student finance in Clearing?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As soon as you have your clearing offer confirmed by us on UCAS, you can let the Student Loan Company know you\u2019re coming to The University of Manchester and which course you\u2019ll be studying to ensure your tuition fees and maintenance loan are covered. Visit our\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.manchester.ac.uk\/study\/undergraduate\/fees-and-funding\/\">student finance information<\/a>\u202fto find out more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What if you don\u2019t get your predicted grades?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have not met your predicated grades or the terms of your offer, you will need to check with the university (or on UCAS Hub) as you may still get an offer from your firm choice. Check your Hub and see if your status has changed to \u2018unconditional\u2019 or if you\u2019ve been offered a place on a different course at the same university. This is known as a \u2018changed course offer\u2019, which you\u2019ll need to accept or decline.<br>&nbsp;<br>If you wish to decline your offer, you can go into Clearing. You can self-release into Clearing if you wish to decline your offers.<br>&nbsp;<br>If you just missed out on your grades by a few marks or intend to appeal any grades, you may be able to ask your firm choice to reconsider if they haven\u2019t accepted you. Speak to an adviser or teacher before doing so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What if I change my mind about my clearing place?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We understand that you may change your mind. If you no longer wish to accept your place at the University, you can select &#8216;decline my place&#8217; on UCAS to release yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also send an email to the named contact for your course titled &#8216;Cancellation&#8217; and provide your UCAS ID or your University student number and your full name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mub.eps.manchester.ac.uk\/science-engineering\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/59\/2024\/05\/MicrosoftTeams-image-50.jpg\" alt=\"A student wearing a lab coat, goggles and gloves in a laboratory. \" class=\"wp-image-5654\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Who\u2019s<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who is eligible for Clearing?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You. Clearing is for anyone who has maybe changed their mind about their original university and course choice, anyone who either didn\u2019t receive any offers, hasn\u2019t accepted any offers, or simply didn\u2019t apply before the 30 June. Clearing is also there for students who received higher grades than they originally thought, or for students who may have received slightly lower. All students are eligible to use Clearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who should you contact to talk through Clearing options after getting your results?&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re feeling a little overwhelmed, that\u2019s ok. Try speaking to someone close to you or someone from your school or college. Clearing hotlines are there to guide you through the process and talk through your options with you, so make a note of hotline numbers. These will include things such as your UCAS number, your grades and Clearing hotline numbers. It\u2019s funny you ask this question, because we\u2019ve put together a handy \u2018make sure you\u2019re Clearing ready\u2019 list for you to download &#8211; coming soon!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do you accept a Clearing place?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the university you want to apply for has offered you a place, you\u2019ll need to add that as a Clearing choice in your application. From there you\u2019ll add all the correct details given to you by the university. Then wait for the university to confirm your application, when that happens it will show as \u201caccepted\u201d on your Track page.
