I am an academic Professor at Manchester Metropolitan University with 25 years of experience in applying stem cell technologies for fundamental and translational research as well as developing cellular systems for Engineering Biology solutions. My academic leadership roles at Manchester Met have included: Director of Centre for Bioscience, Human Tissue Authority Designated Individual and Research Excellence Framework (REF2021) Unit of Assessment co-ordinator for Allied Health Professions.

My research is embedded in understanding stem cells and how they can be manipulated to model disease in the lab, treat disease in the clinic, or as scalable protein production vehicles. I have a network of national and international collaborators working on interdisciplinary research projects incorporating human stem cells, genetic engineering, bioengineering and computational AI/machine learning. My research has been funded through UKRI, EU Horizon, Innovate UK and health research charities.
