First-Class Honours Degree in Chemical Science<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Sam Davies has been a valued member of our team since 2022, starting as a Laboratory Technician Apprentice. His experience spans a diverse range of environments across the University of Manchester from 2018, including the GEIC, the National Graphene Institute, the Nuclear Physics Group, and geography and chemistry teaching labs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sam highlights the development of his occupational network as one of the most significant benefits of his apprenticeship, a network that will undoubtedly support his future professional and personal growth. During his 2 years at the GEIC, Sam gained varied experience in graphene-enhanced coatings and concrete. This had grown his interest in research and development, and he hopes to continue his journey in cutting-edge, innovative science moving forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A noteworthy accomplishment during Sam\u2019s apprenticeship was his contribution to an academic project within the Nuclear Physics Group, where he helped develop methods for the production and of thin films. This experience honed his problem-solving skills and reinforced his ability to tackle complex challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Reflecting on his apprenticeship, Sam highly recommends the programme, citing the extensive work experience, the ability to adapt to different environments, and the opportunity to manage multiple long-term responsibilities as key benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thomas Sherratt\u2019s<\/strong> Apprenticeship Journey<\/strong> Thomas Sherratt also began his technical apprenticeship in 2018, where he was introduced to the lab placement system. Those initial six months were instrumental in building his foundation, as he learned essential procedures and techniques, acquired new skills, and collaborated closely with the lab team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Throughout his apprenticeship, Thomas expanded his expertise across various areas, including infrastructure, Mass Spectrometry, Chemical Engineering Analysis System (CEAS), and Bioimaging. His journey included work at the National Graphene Institute and reached a significant milestone when he joined the GEIC’s Energy Lab.
