In March 2025, the Game Changers project teamed up with the Manchester United Foundation and the Manchester United Women’s Team to deliver a special upcycling workshop at Carrington Training Ground—the club’s world-class training facility.
As part of Green Football Weekend: The Big Save, the event brought together professional players, pupils from local partner schools, and university staff to explore the environmental impact of football shirts and the power of upcycling. Using surplus kits provided by the club, participants learned how to transform old shirts into new, usable bags —giving unused garments a second life while learning about circular fashion and sustainability.
The women’s team joined in to cut, sew, and support the students, helping to spark conversations about waste, climate responsibility, and small actions that can make a big difference. The workshop was a standout moment in the Green Football campaign and was featured across Sky Sports, Manchester United TV, and Green Football’s social media channels, reaching thousands of fans.
This event showed the power of sport, creativity, and community coming together to tackle climate issues—one shirt and one stitch, at a time.
