From my own experience in the past two months, university education isn\u2019t just attending lectures, participating in labs and calculating numbers. Those are indeed very important things, but you will develop a better way of thinking and a unique way to approach problems as well. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">For example, we had a mechanical CAD (Computer Aided Design)\u00a0lab this morning. The task was to make and assemble the microcontroller board with Solidworks. I\u2019m not a complete stranger\u00a0to this software, so it only took me a couple of minutes to draw the parts of the microcontroller. But things didn\u2019t go so well with my friends who were sitting next to me. Since this wasn\u2019t a test or quiz and the demonstrators were all pretty busy, I started helping them with their drawings and later on their assemblies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sites.se.manchester.ac.uk\/eee-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2018\/01\/Harru-Fu_Microcontroller-photo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-337 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sites.se.manchester.ac.uk\/eee-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2018\/01\/Harru-Fu_Microcontroller-photo-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sites.se.manchester.ac.uk\/eee-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2018\/01\/Harru-Fu_Microcontroller-photo-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sites.se.manchester.ac.uk\/eee-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2018\/01\/Harru-Fu_Microcontroller-photo-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.sites.se.manchester.ac.uk\/eee-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2018\/01\/Harru-Fu_Microcontroller-photo-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.sites.se.manchester.ac.uk\/eee-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2018\/01\/Harru-Fu_Microcontroller-photo-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.sites.se.manchester.ac.uk\/eee-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2018\/01\/Harru-Fu_Microcontroller-photo-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">I noticed that there are many different ways to put all these parts together &#8211; there was a brief guide to follow on the lab notebook but the rest of the work was all your creativity and imagination. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Sometimes in Solidworks, you can save lots of time by using small tricks while putting together an assembly. This might sound very basic to mature engineers that use CAD tools all the time, but it was pretty inspiring to me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">This is one of the many things that make me think about my university education\u00a0in more depth; behind all the technical skills and knowledge, the development of one\u2019s problem-solving skills is incredibly important.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">So before I finish this entry and go to bed, I hope my simple thought will be helpful for someone who\u2019s reading this. I guess I\u2019m not the first one to realize this, but I\u2019m pretty sure that there are still many people out there still treating their university education as a harder version of high school education. I don\u2019t think it is.
