Artem Mishchenko is a Senior Staff Laboratory Scientist at Google DeepMind (London) and an Honorary Professor at the University of Manchester. A pioneer in the field of van der Waals materials and AI-driven materials discovery, he earned his PhD in Molecular Electronics from the University of Bern in 2010. Since November 2025, he has led the creation of the first experimental laboratory at Google DeepMind dedicated to closing the loop in materials discovery by integrating AI with automated synthesis and characterisation. Recognized as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher for seven consecutive years (2018–2024), his research has been published in over 150 papers, including many in Nature and Science. He is the recipient of the 2018 EMFL Prize and was a finalist for the 2021 Blavatnik Award for Young Scientists. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (FInstP) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC).
